The Gable Timber Extension

Celebrating natural textures and traditional geometry, Gable Timber Extension is a sympathetic yet distinctly modern addition to a classic London stock brick property. Moving away from the dark, moody tones of urban minimalism, this project focuses on warmth, light, and understated craftsmanship.

From the landscaped rear terrace, the extension presents a striking gabled silhouette that echoes the rooflines of traditional architecture while maintaining a clean, contemporary edge. Clad in vertical, pale timber battens, the extension offers a soft, organic texture that patinas beautifully over time, contrasting gently with the rugged heritage brickwork above. A large set of timber-framed sliding glass doors and an adjacent picture window frame views of a mature birch tree and structured garden planters. The internal oak flooring sits level with the light-toned stone paving outside, effortlessly extending the living space outdoors.

Moving through the core of the home, the design team restored and elevated the property’s original architectural bones to establish a cohesive transition from old to new. The entrance features a beautifully restored, sweeping timber staircase wrapped in clean, off-white walls. A neutral woven runner secured with polished brass carpet rods adds tailored elegance.
